Below is a series of images shot a couple weeks back titled Seven Days, Seven Photographs. The aim was to just get out and shoot, I don’t do as much of it as I should these days. I would also like to build my Northern Beaches portfolio so it was great to get a few keeps. In order the photos are from South Curl Curl, Freshwater Beach, Garigal National Park, Dee Why, Manly to Shelly Beach walkway, Manly Wharf, and Sydney city.

Photographed on the final day of my week of photography. Looking up is something people rarely do in the city, all to often they are in a rush to get to work or home. When you next walk in the city take a moment to enjoy it, Sydney really has some beautiful buildings.

Photographed on day 6 of my week of photography. Fast moving clouds blur with a long exposure of 240 seconds. Here I used a B+W 10 stop Neutral Density filter to get the desired shutter speed.

Manly Beach, Sydney

Photographed on day 5 of my week of photography. This day was truly miserable, at the last minute I decided to brave it but stay local taking a walk to Manly beach. I had previsualised this shot and wanted to photograph the headland using a very long exposure to blur the water and the clouds. In retrospect the photo doesn’t even need a long exposure, it is more about the people rather than anything else who thankfully stayed mostly motionless for the 30 seconds. I think a reshoot is in order, but will Manly be as quiet when I attempt it again? I doubt it.

I’ve sat on these photos for a couple months now and thought it about time to share them with you. Photographed down at Manly beach on a glorious evening, I just wish I been more organised to go out and take some landscapes, not to worry it’s all good practice.

For the photographers, these photos are a great example of how telephoto lenses compact distance. Shot at 200mm the surfers are about 1km from the headland although looking at the photos you would never tell.

Spent most of today at the old tram station in Glebe. Urban landscapes and panoramas to follow but for now I thought I would share this one with you. It’s amazing who you bump into when sneaking around old derelict buildings. These guys, ‘Team 9Lives’ from the Parkour club based in Fairfield are immense, check them out here.

Something a bit different. I went out last night for a few hours after sunset with a bunch of light painters from Flickr with an array of cool lights. This is the result of a 30 minute exposure to capture the star trails composited with other images to light the foreground, the window frame, the inside of the bunker, and the light trail leading towards the camera.

Here are some photos from I recent shoot I did for a friend Heidi. Photographed locally at Fairlight rock pool a month or so back I used only available light, no flash, no bounce sheet. Enjoy!

Tilt Shift Time Lapse – Port of Napier, New Zealand

Whilst in NZ I managed to shoot some time lapse photography. This is my first attempt and I made some mistakes but you live and learn. Time wasn’t a luxury I had so the video is quite short. It’s a start, a great experience, learning curve and something I’ll be sure to do some more of around Manly.

The tilt shift effect which makes everything look tiny and toy like is achieved either using a specialised lens or as in this case in post processing via Photoshop. A process sometimes known as miniature faking. I’ve been meaning to release a tutorial on how to do this as well as the action script I used to automate this process, stay tuned.

I would love to hear your thoughts!
