Newsletter July 2010

7 July, 2010 (14:14) | newsletter | By: Lee Duguid

Hi guys, here’s a quick round up of what I’ve been up to in the last couple months, and what I have coming up.

Photography Course – new dates

I have locked in two course dates for this month, book now to get my fantastic introductory rate which will expire after these course dates! The two dates are the last until later in the year so don’t delay. I’ve had some really positive feedback from past participants, they managed to shoot great photographs on the day, learnt how to use their cameras in manual mode (scary!) and even had time for some fun. For those of you that don’t already know, the course includes a booklet with all my tips and tricks, a CD with Photoshop and processing video tutorials and most importantly you get to spend 6 magical hours with me taking photos, asking questions and learning my techniques.

For more information and to book a course please visit here

Photography Awards
I’ve entered in a couple photography competitions of late working towards official accreditation from the AIPP (Australian Institute of Profession Photography). Of the competitions I entered I won four awards, a Silver at the National AIPP Landscape Photographer of the Year for which I get published in their yearly book, a Silver at the NSW equivalent both for my photo of Flinders Street Station and two bronze awards at this year’s Epson International Photography Pano Awards for my images of Picnic Rocks, Tasmania and Lake Pedder, Tasmania.

European Trip

Armed with my new Canon 5D Mark II at the start of next month I will be leaving for a 3 month trip around Europe. I plan to visit the Greek Islands, South and North Italy, Croatia, Austria, Spain and the UK. If anyone has any photo location tips I would love to hear from you. One I’m really looking forward to is the Isle of Skye in my native Scotland. Keep an eye on my blog for updates and maybe even some videos :)

Light Painting Tutorial

For the photographers out there I’ve posted a capture article and post processing video to show what exactly was involved in creating my star trails image. Photographed at North Head, Manly this photo is made up of several components, painting with a variety of light sources to create a truly unique effect. The star trails is the result of a whopping 30 minute exposure.

That’s it for now, I’ll be posting new images from the Blue Mountains in the coming weeks, if I don’t email you before I leave keep an eye on my blog for updates.

Thanks guys, take care.

Balls Head, Sydney skyline including Opera House & Harbour Bridge

Balls Head Reserve, Sydney and the surrounding area offers stunning views from the North shore back towards Sydney’s CBD, the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. It’s a place I’ve visited on several occasions, this time to capture the sun setting to the West, reflecting off the glass towers of the CBD and giving warmth to the clouds.

The world famous, instantly recognisable Opera House and Harbour Bridge in Sydney Australia. Sunrise, one of the few moments where it can be enjoyed in solitude photographed here earlier in the year.

Twelve Apostles, Australia

Twelve Apostles, Australia

Welcome to LeeDuguid.com.au the newsletter!

It’s been a busy few months since my last newsletter with a couple of photo trips and my first solo exhibition.

Solo Exhibition update

Thanks to everyone who visited my first solo exhibition at RAW studios in Manly. It was a great success with hundreds of visitors over the 10 days and even a write up in the local newspaper, the Manly Daily. I’ve posted some images from the opening night here for those interested.

Exhibition GIG Gallery
As part of ‘Northern Expressions’ a Northern Beaches groups of artists I will be exhibiting two images at the Gig Gallery in Glebe. For more information please visit the Gig Gallery’s website. The opening night is on Tuesday 27th October (sorry about the late notice), please come and join me for a drink.

Canvas prints – new pricing
After printing the impressive 39 X 59 North Curl Curl canvas (1m x 1.5m) for my exhibition I’ve decided to offer this size for all my high resolution images. It really does have a massive visual impact and looks great on a feature wall. With the introduction of this product and in the lead up to Christmas I have decided to lower my canvas prices on the larger sizes. These great new prices are available immediately so purchase soon for Christmas to avoid disappointment.

Framing & Canvas Stretching
As a free service to my customers I am happy provide print framing and canvas stretching at cost. As I have close ties with local framers in the Northern Beaches this can often be at a reduced price otherwise offered. Please email or call for further information.

Sydney & Northern Beaches

16 October, 2009 (13:42) | latest images | By: Lee Duguid

Here are some of my latest images from around my neck of the woods, Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The first couple are from Turimetta, I would have to say the best spot for photography on the beaches. Visit it at the right time of year and the rocks will be covered in amazing neon green weed. The next shot is from Little Manly Cove, shot here on very stormy evening. The wind was blowing a gale and had even helped wash one of the boats about 5 metres up on to the beach. Next up is a photo of Manly Lagoon which was shot for Manly Council as part of the Manly Lagoon festival. The next two are from a trip to Freshwater Beach at sunrise. It was certainly a more memorable sunrise, glad I got up in time. Finally is a panoramic photo taken at Balls Head Reserve of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Sydney Skyline.
