Turimetta in all it’s green glory. This wide angle panorama, photographed shortly after sunset shows the nights sky glowing a beautiful purple which contrasts against the green moss covered rocks.

A popular spot with local photographers, Turimetta can get somewhat crowded. The beach is constantly evolving with sands being dumped and stripped from its shores with a changing tide and the seasonal green moss covering its rocks adding colour.

I am pleased to introduce a wide range of education offerings for photographers of all skill levels with the addition of an education section to my website.

My popular group and private day courses teach beginners/intermediate students from the ground up, learning to shoot fully manual, and how to create their very own master pieces. Private courses can be completely tailored to suit the students needs and can even include time learning Photoshop, be split into two sessions, cover more advanced topics or even be shared with a friend. If a full day session doesn’t suit then you can pick my brains for an hour or two to brush up or learn new skills such as how to use filters, how to shoot at night, how do light painting or how to shoot long exposures. If you can’t find your way around Photoshop or would like to see what I do when processing photos allow me to connect remotely to your computer via the internet and show you in real time with an interactive one on one mastering lesson. Warriewood Blowhole, Northern Beaches

Warriewood Blowhole or Canyon X as it is known to some photographers is a hidden treasure just north of Turimetta Beach. I visited the blowhole mid tide when access is limited to a short abseil down the surrounding cliff face. Luckily I had a Warriewood experienced photographer buddy Jerome Berbigier with me to guide my feet into the foot holds as I lowered myself down the rope. It’s not for the faint hearted and something I am unlikely to do again, especially in the dark, rain (think wet slippery rocks), and with 10kg of camera gear like this time. Is a photograph really worth risking injury or death for? I’ve come very close to getting sucked out to sea and falling down a 6ft rock shelf when I was knocked over by two waves a year or so ago at Freshwater Reserve. It wasn’t a clever thing to do, especially considering I was on my own, nobody knew where I was and it I was photographing at midnight. Needless to say it really gave me a wakeup call so I’m a bit more careful these days.

Anyway this is a great spot, next time I’ll go there at low tide and access it from Turimetta. Be sure to check out the videos below to get an idea of the place.

Loch Rannoch, Scotland, UK

Finally I’m posting my first ever photographs from Scotland, I only lived there for 21 years so it’s about time. The first series of images are from the magnificent Loch Rannoch. You have never experienced midges (small biting insects) until you have been to the moors and Highlands of Scotland in the summer. Unfortunately they really hampered my photo taking on a number of occassions, they are unbearable. However the stunning countryside, wild deer and amazing sunrises made up for it.

Matera, Italy

Matera, Italy had the WOW factor for me. This doesn’t happen too often (last place from memory was the Great Wall of China) so I was very excited when I arrived and set eyes on it. I couldn’t wait to get out and shoot it, which I definitely did over the couple of days I had. Lots of photos to come, for now here is one of the city taken at sunrise.

For those who recognise it, Matera is the backdrop for Mel Gibson’s movie ‘Passion of the Christ’.

Isle of Skye, Scotland – preview

Photographed at sunrise from above the Old Man of Storr on Scotland’s Isle of Skye. An early morning hour long hike in the dark was well rewarded with an amazing sunrise. This photo shows the sunlight pouring over distant mountains on mainland Scotland. The islands of Rona and Raasay in the foreground surrounded by the Sound of Raasay.

A surprising place to find serenity and beauty, located under Roseville Bridge, Sydney. I’ve been waiting to check this place out for some time now as you often find an early morning mist when it is cold. This day was no exception, it was one of Sydneys coldest morings in a long time measuring 1ºC.
