Nugget Point Otago Coast South Island New Zealand

11 July, 2010 (11:30) | latest images | By: Lee Duguid

Nugget Point on the Otago Coast, South Island, New Zealand offers great views out towards the popular lighthouse as well as back up the coastline. Photographed here as the sun sets behind the hills, rain clouds move along the coastline and soon up to the headland.

The following photographs were taken on a recent trip to New Zealand. Please browse the seascape, rural and urban galleries for the entire collection.

The best sunrise I have ever seen and what a great place to spend it...the Moeraki Boulders, NZ. This is my second trip here, I love these weird spherical boulders, I just wish there were more geographic photogenic locations like this.

Another trip to the ever popular Milford Sound. I love the drive to Milford although this time I did it in the dark. With limited time I tend to shoot in different locations for sunset and sunrise which often means I have to drive in the dark.

Doubtful Sound accessible by boat or foot is less visited than Milford Sound but equally stunning. I was presently surprised to visit here at less than optimal times (that is for landscape photography) and was still able to capture the mood of Doubtful before the low lying cloud disappeared. I think next time I will be taking my tent and camp out there.

Only after lots researching for my trip to NZ (lots of Googling and searching Flickr etc.) I discovered Nugget Point lighthouse. It really is a fantastic place, one which I hope to visit again.

Church of the Good Shepherd is perfectly situated on the edge of Lake Tekapo in the idyllic Mackenzie Country. On my last visit I took one of my all time favourite shots, the clouds seem to come from behind the Church perfectly light by the sunrise.

On my way to Mount Cook from the East coast I passed though the MacKenzie County and Lake Tekapo completely lost blindly following my GPS. I can't say I know exactly where this place is but I do know it is definitely picturesque.

A hard one to photograph as it's usually surrounded by clouds, the weather is very temperamental here changing every hour with four seasons in any one day. This time I was lucky and only the very top of Mount Cook was covered in cloud just enough to make it an interesting shot without completely covering it from sight.

Taken near Fairlight train station the last stop on the iconic scenic journey of the Kingston Flyer, New Zealand's famous vintage steam train.
