A bit different to my usual landscape, I shot this panoramic of Circular Quay whilst out teaching a private photography course. Photographed from the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pylon Lookout, an excellent place for panoramic views of the city, if only it stayed open after 5pm a sunset here would be amazing.

This panoramic photo is the resulting stitch of several hand held landscape photos taken with my Canon L Series 70-200mm F2.8. Ensuring I shot with a steady hand and overlapped each image sufficiently Autopano Pro was able to stitch the images with no problems. After then I applied a tilt shift effect in Photoshop blurring the top and bottom of the image to accentuate the miniature look of the boats (aka miniature faking). The elevated perspective lends itself nicely to tilt shift photography where the ferry already looked miniature.

I love playing with tilt shift to create the miniature effect! AI first learn this technique back in about 2007 and played around with it so much I have tons of such pictures in my storage somewhere. Some I framed and hung up to accentuate a blank wall or to hide a defect but most I don’t know what to do with. I actually have a somewhat similar picture I took a while back but I have no idea where I left it. My computer was hit by a virus and unfortunately, nothing could be saved from the hard disk storage. Ah well, looks like it’s a great excuse to go out to take pictures and play around with the tilt shift again.

I love the effects you’ve used.

The final image actually looks like a dreamy view of a child’s Lego version of the Harbour.
