These truly unique spherical boulders exhumed from the surrounding mud stone cliffs by coastal erosion are an amazing sight which were formed on the ocean floor much like oyster pearls millions of years ago. Maori legend tells us the boulders are the remains of eel baskets, calabashes, and kumara washed ashore from the wreck of a large canoe.
